At Scaleworx Creations, we believe ordering a suit should be a simple and stress-free process. We know the excitement and magic that comes with the purchase of a new costume, be it your first or your fifth, and we are here to ensure you get precisely the body you’ve always dreamed of. If you have ordered suits before, you may know what to expect, but if this is your first time, here is what you need to know about commissioning a costume from Scaleworx.
Before we can get started on your creation, we need to know exactly what you are looking for. For costumes, full and partial fursuits, we typically require a reference picture, illustrating the character you wish to bring to life. Reference art should be prepared with the usage in mind, and should illustrate how the suit will look when worn. Please ensure your reference art includes at least three views (front, back and side), and shows all the specific details to be included such as patterns, highlights or designs. For more information on how to prepare an effective character reference, and for contacts of our partner artists, please refer to our Reference Art page.
Measurements / Duct Tape Dummy:
No matter what the design, no matter what the materials or features, your suit has to fit comfortably. As such, one of the most important things we will require of you is a complete set of body measurements (we will provide you a list of measurements we require). In addition to measurements, full-body costumes will also require a duct-tape dummy. Your duct tape dummy ensure that we have an accurate representation of your body shape and size, and will ensure your suit fits properly. For information on how to build a dummy, please refer to our Duct Tape Dummy page.
Materials, Options and Features:
All our costumes and fursuits are custom creations, built to your dreams and designs. Almost as important as your reference art, is a description of what your suit will be made from, and which custom options and features you want. From fur, to leather, from scales to glass, there are a lot of alternatives out there, and picking the right materials and options can make a huge difference. Please refer to our Materials and Options page to get an idea of the materials we typically work with; however, don’t hesitate to ask about something different.
Because this process can be a bit intimidating, we are more than happy to help you decide. Feel free to send us any questions you have; we are here to work with you, and we will use our experience and expertise to help you get the suit you’ve always wanted.
Payment and Progress:
Once we have all the information we need to create your costume, we will quote you a price. Typically, suits range from $800 to $4000 depending on scale and complexity; however, we will always try to work within a budget that is right for you. To reserve a place in our building queue, you will need to provide at least 25% of the quoted price – this will allow us to order materials and get things started on your commission. This down payment is NON Refundable! Full payment is required before the costume will be shipped, and we accept PayPal for all payments made.
We believe that building a suit is a deeply personal experience, which is why we believe in a strong customer connection throughout the build process. After every feature, we will send you an update, complete with progress photos for your review. There is nothing worse than reaching the end of a project, only to realize you do not like the result, and as such, do not hesitate to ask for alterations at any stage during the build. If you want something altered, just ask. Production times vary based on complexity, but typically a full costume will be complete in 6-12 months.
Shipment and Tracking:
Just like the suit itself, we will ship out your products as you require. Typically we ship using FedEx; however, we can use other vehicles as needed. All our shipments are sent with tracking numbers for reference, and we can insure your shipment if you require. We ship anywhere worldwide; however, we cannot be held responsible for any items lost, delayed, damaged or seized during shipment. Please read our Terms of Service page for more information.
Alternatively, you may also wish to pick up your order in person if you live in the area or nearby. If you would like to arrange for a pick-up, please let us know in advance.
Adjustments, Alterations and Repairs:
If at all possible, we encourage our customers to visit our shop during the build process for fitting and adjustments on the spot, but we understand this is not always possible. In these situations, despite our best efforts, it is possible that parts of your costume may not fit as intended. If this should happen, we will gladly take back your costume to make any adjustments necessary without charge (however, you may be responsible for shipping charges). If there is an alteration that is desired to your creation (from the original design) after the suit has been completed, You may be required to pay an additional fee for the alterations made.
In and above fitting adjustments, if you would like to make other alterations or additions to your suit, we are happy to work with you to make the necessary changes. Please refer to our Repairs and Alterations page for additional information.
